I've used self-tanning products for years! None have really seemed to do the trick. They would either leave streaks, a weird smell, or had to be reapplied daily. I've been on the hunt to find a go-to easy self-tanner that wasn't a hassle to apply. After trying different self-tanners for years, I figured that the perfect product didn't exist so I took a drastic measure and signed up for a yearly tanning bed membership. I am proud to say I have now completely stopped going (even before quarantine) because I finally found the perfect tanning products! Here is my step-by-step self-tanning routine including a few questions I had when first trying them out.
First and foremost let's talk about how it works before diving into more detailed questions and answers. Loving tan is a fast-acting self-tanner that will immediately show results and gradually become darker the longer you leave the product on. When you apply the mousse to your body, it is recommended to leave the tan on for at least two hours before raising off (water only). Heads up, the longer you let the tan develop (beyond the 2 hours) the darker your tan will become. Except for wiping your hands, feet, and knees within an hour of application. Those areas are more sensitive and the tan will develop too strong if left on too long. After two hours, simply rinse the tan off in the shower and you're set to go! Now here's a deeper dive into how I go about my tanning routine.

How to prep:
I always shave and exfoliate the day before applying. When you apply loving tan, don't use soap immediately after. After two hours (or however long you choose), rinse off with water only! Shaving the day before helps the tan apply smoother for a more natural look.
Do I need to use the mitt?
YES! You'll need the Loving Tan Mitt as well, but great news, if you purchase Loving Tan from Ulta before May 10, you'll receive a free mitt with your purchase. Apply the mousse directly to the mitt and quickly begin blending. Careful, it dries in 60 secs! Gradually add the excess tan on the mitt to your hands, feet, and knees. Also, be sure to put lotion on your hands, feet, knees, elbows, and any dry area before applying.
How often should I tan?
I typically tan every two weeks. Then will tan more if I have extra fun activities in my schedule. I prefer the tan to gradually fade so I can exfoliate less. I've noticed the color comes out more natural when I wait to tan. Oh! And did I mention, it's waterproof. So don't worry about showering or taking a dive in the pool.
How long does it last?
My tan lasts about a week or so, solidly. I'll still have some color in the second week but you can notice it has faded and the color isn't as strong. I would reapply weekly to keep a strong and consistent color. You'll need to exfoliate before reapplying! Using lotion daily will help as well!
What shade should I try?
I've been using the shade medium and have loved my natural-looking results. Although, I've been out in the sun more and expect that to stay the same or increase. I may need to upgrade to the shade dark or leave my tan on longer during the spring and summer months. If you're fair to light skin, I'd definitely start with the medium and upgrade as you get more comfortable with the product.
Do you tan your face?
Nope! I tried it once or twice and absolutely hated it when I did. The tan looked great but my skin was not happy and I broke out like crazy. If you have sensitive skin like me, I have another amazing product that is easier on your skin and looks just as natural.
A staple in my makeup routine every day, tanning or not, I use this product. It's gentle enough to use when not tanning and just as powerful to use when you are. It's really like sunshine in a bottle! The only thing, do not to apply the tanning drops by themselves. You'll need to apply with your moisturizer or foundation. Simply add one drop into either or and add before your daily makeup routine. You'll have a perfect skin-kiss glow to brighten your day.

Happy Tanning, all!
Cheers,
Baccerina
